Meet the Dawn Editorial and Clinical Team and Our Standards

Most of life happens outside a therapy appointment. In any given week, there are 167 hours between sessions: the late nights, the racing thoughts before a big morning, the stretches where you feel stuck and aren't sure why. Dawn exists for those hours, and so does everything we publish here.

Dawn is meant to help you at the exact moment you need it, and you should be able to trust that what you read is accurate, grounded in evidence, reviewed by clinicians, and written with genuine care for what you're going through.

About the Dawn Editorial Team

Dawn helps people find their way back to their lives. Our editorial team carries that same mission onto the page: to make trustworthy mental health guidance clear, warm, and usable in everyday moments, not just in a crisis.

Everything we publish sits within four connected areas of wellbeing that shape how we feel day to day:

  • Mind: Working with anxiety, low mood, overthinking, stress, and the thought patterns that keep us stuck and learning to relate to them differently.
  • Move: How movement, from a short walk to steadier exercise, supports mood, energy, and the way the body carries stress.
  • Sleep: Building rest that restores you, and easing the nighttime worry and racing thoughts that get in the way.
  • Connection: Navigating relationships, conflict, and loneliness, and taking small steps back toward the people who matter.

We choose topics the same way Dawn shows up for members: by paying attention to what people are actually struggling with. Reader questions, common patterns we see in the moments people reach for support, and emerging research all guide what we write next.

Who Writes and Reviews Our Content

Every article is a collaboration between skilled health writers and Dawn's clinical team. No piece is published on the strength of good writing alone, and no clinical concept reaches you without someone who can make it genuinely useful.

  • Our writers: We work with experienced health and wellness writers who know how to translate complex, sometimes clinical ideas into language that feels human. Their job is to make guidance clear and approachable without ever oversimplifying what matters.
  • Clinical leadership: Maya D'Eon, PhD, Dawn's Head of Clinical. A licensed clinical psychologist and former UC San Diego Health faculty member, Maya leads clinical strategy, safety frameworks, and evidence-based protocol development at Dawn, drawing on a background that spans measurement-based care, behavioral medicine, and the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. She shapes Dawn's clinical approach and the guardrails behind everything we publish.
  • Clinical review: Before a piece is published, Maya and Dawn's clinicians review it to confirm it's accurate, current, and aligned with established clinical thinking, so that what you read reflects real clinical recommendations.

Our Standards

We hold every article to the same standards Dawn applies to the guidance it offers members. Here's how we ground what we publish.

  • We build on evidence: Our content draws on established, evidence-based approaches to mental health, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
  • We cite credible sources: Where we reference research, data, or clinical concepts, we draw on peer-reviewed studies, recognized health organizations, and clinical expertise.
  • We review every piece for accuracy: Before anything is published, it's reviewed against our clinical guidelines and, where needed, by Dawn's clinical team.
  • We keep content current: Mental health understanding evolves. We revisit and update our articles as guidance and evidence change, so what you read stays accurate over time.

Our Editorial Values

How we say something matters as much as what we say. These principles guide every piece:

  • Direct: We get to the point. Our writing is clear, useful, and concise.
  • Empathetic: We meet you where you are without judgment.
  • Honest: We don't overpromise. Real change tends to come from manageable shifts and small steps repeated over time. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a quick fix.
